Answer God’s Call

Whether you know it or not, God has called you to know him, and to live by the Bible which is His revealed Word.  The Bible is the Will of God.

Will you answer the call?

God called out each member in particular to work together within the church.  This is his design, with each person adding their strengths, making the body of believers stronger.  This concept is best illustrated in I Corinthians, chapter 12:

I Corinthians 12:14 – For the body [the body of believers] is not one member, but many. ¹⁵ If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? ¹⁶ And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? ¹⁷ If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? ¹⁸ But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. ¹⁹ And if they were all one member, where were the body? ²⁰ But now are they many members, yet but one body. ²¹ And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. ²² Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary: ²³ And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness. ²⁴ For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked. ²⁵ That there should be no schism [division] in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. ²⁶ And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it. ²⁷ Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

Each one of us is important, and God has called us to function and thrive together.  Sometimes we may be tempted to think that we are not good enough, or that we have nothing to offer.  But according to the verses above, even the “feeble” or “uncomely” parts of the body of believers are necessary.

The Analogy of the physical body illustrates this perfectly.  Everyone sees and appreciates all of the outward attributes of their physical body (the comely parts) but what if our digestive system didn’t work? (one of our uncomely parts) – that would be quite a problem!  So it is with us, we are each important to God’s plan.

If you ever think that you are not good enough, or you wonder why you are here, know that God called you to be His child before he even formed the earth.  (Ephesians 1:4)

You are unique and fit into the household of God just perfectly as you are.  There is no one else who has your strengths, your abilities, your attitude, your heart.

God instructs us to use the life and walk of Jesus Christ as our example. (John 14:12)

He was the greatest servant ever, and he was a leader of God’s people.  It takes leadership to move forward with the teachings of the Bible.  We are called to be servants of God and leaders of men and women.  Our calling is to first know God (Romans 10:9-10) and then to help others know Him. (Acts 1:8)

Titus 1:6-9   Lists the concept of “Servants of God” and the qualifications of a leader:

If any be blameless, [prepared in all points, so as not to be caught off guard by the adversary] the husband of one wife, [Self-explanatory] having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly. [Well behaved kids] ⁷ For a bishop [superintendent, overseer] must be blameless, [prepared in all points] as the steward of God; [A steward manages, and is responsible for the affairs of another, in this case, God’s affairs] not selfwilled, [wanting to do things one’s own way] not soon angry, [having a buildup of emotion which is allowed to fester to the point of seeking revenge] not given to wine, [avoids drunkenness] no striker, [not a fighter] not given to filthy lucre; [The love of money] ⁸ But a lover of hospitality, [Kind to people, a welcoming home] a lover of good men, [The original text reads “A lover of Good Things”] sober, [Of sound mind] just, [honest and fair] holy, [undefiled by sin and wickedness] temperate; [Having a strong mastery of self] ⁹ Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort [encourage] and to convince the gainsayers [those who contradict the teachings of the Bible]

These are the qualifications of leadership and great points to strive for in our lives.  A great leader avoids the negative pitfalls listed above and holds fast to the positive attributes expected of them.

God has called you as an individual to be a member in particular and to serve with the body of believers.  No one but you can provide your strengths and special gifts to the world.

So answer God’s call!
