More than a Conqueror

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. (Romans 8:37)

It is interesting to note that the word “conquerors” is only used in this one verse and nowhere else in The Bible. This should tell us that it is an important word, and to take note. Romans 8 is also written in the present tense. It is not some time in the future, but NOW!

Another way to say it would be superconqueror, more than adequate to overcome any adversity.

Romans 8:31 – What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

A strong rhetorical question. How powerful is the God who created the heavens and the earth? Is there anything he won’t do for us? He wants to give us everything that pertains to life and Godliness

2 Peter 1:3 – According as his [God’s] divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue…Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises…

This verse tell us again that God has already given these things to us. We just need to accept and claim the promises contained in the Bible.

What are some practical ways to make God our sufficiency? To be a superconqueror?

Here are 3 simple ideas:

  1. Continually recognize God as the source of all power in our lives.
  2. Consistently meditate on His Word to keep it fresh in our minds
  3. Remain thankful for the blessings that he HAS already given us

Continually recognize that God is the source of all power in our lives.

Have you ever noticed that every time you try to do something all by yourself you usually end up frustrated, but when you ask God for help everything just comes together? The Word talks about this in Second Corinthians:

2 Corinthians 3:5 – Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God

From personal experience I know this to be true, if we go to God first, everything comes together. We should all do this more starting right now.

Countless times I have been frustrated by my own progress, and only after asking for God’s help do I see a resolution.

Next, we should consistently meditate on His Word to keep it fresh in our minds.

In order to think about something it has to first be put into our mind.  I watched an interesting video recently about just how susceptible we are to influences around us. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f29kF1vZ62o

The best thing we can put into our heads is the influence from God and His Word. This activity is considered an “active influence” and we are choosing what media and thoughts we consume and allow into our minds. If we do not choose what to meditate on, then we are influenced overtly and subtly by our environment (passive inluence.) This is almost always negative.

The last key is to remain thankful for the blessings that God has already given us

Psalms 100:4 – Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

God wants to be our sufficiency in all things and no matter how bad the situation, we can always find something to be thankful for in life.

Colossians 3:15 – And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

The commandments in this verse provide a great framework for happiness. Letting God’s peace rule in our lives, and being grateful for what we have. Those who are thankful will always have much to be thankful for.

1 Corinthians 15:57 – But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

God provides victory in our lives immediately and ultimately. The will of God is that we prosper and be in health (III John 1:2) which is a victory in this world, and we also have an ultimate victory in Christ with salvation and eternal life. (I John 5:4)

In review, these three keys will help us stay on track and be more than a conqueror:

  1. Continually recognize God as the source of all power in our lives.
  2. Consistently meditate on His Word to keep it fresh in our minds
  3. Remain thankful for the blessings that he HAS already given us

In closing, let’s read Colossians 4:2

Colossians 4:2 – Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;

We are more than a conqueror — SUPERCONQUERORS for God.

God Bless You!
